A Quote by George Eliot on happiness, spirituality, thought, and usefulness

Be unselfish. That is the first and final commandment for those who would be useful and happy in their usefulness. If you think of yourself only. you cannot develop because you are choking thee source of development, which is spiritual expansion through thought for others.

A Quote by Garson Kanin on belief, creativity, emotion, life, love, spirituality, and success

The best part of one's life is the working part, the creative part. Believe me, I love to succeed....However, the real spiritual and emotional excitement is in the doing.

A Quote by Frederic William Farrar on difficulty, god, heart, love, obedience, purity, rules, slavery, soul, spirit, spirituality, strength, elightenment, and yielding

It is easy to be a slave to the letter, and difficult to enter into the spirit; easy to obey a number of outward rules, difficult to enter intelligently and self-sacrificingly into the will of God; easy to entangle the soul in a network of petty observances, difficult to yield the obedience of an enlightened heart; easy to be haughtily exclusive, difficult to be humbly spiritual; easy to be an ascetic or a formalist, difficult to be pure, and loving, and wise, and free; easy to be a Pharisee, difficult to be a disciple; very easy to embrace a self-satisfying and sanctimonious system of rabbinical observances, very difficult to love God with all the heart, and all the might, and all the soul, and all the strength.

A Quote by Forbes Robinson on day, justice, language, learning, and spirituality

Just as in learning to swim or in learning a language, often toiling on with no apparent result, there comes a day when suddenly we realize we can do it,-how we know we know not; so it is in spiritual matters.

A Quote by Ezra Taft Benson on circumstances, crisis, economics, future, learning, needs, preparation, principles, reason, self-reliance, spirituality, unemployment, and welfare

More than ever before, we need to learn and apply the principles of economic self-reliance. We do not know when the crisis involving sickness or unemployment may affect our own circumstances. We do know that the Lord has decreed global calamities for the future and has warned and forewarned us to be prepared. For this reason the Brethren have repeatedly stressed a 'back to basics' program for temporal and spiritual welfare.

A Quote by Ezra Taft Benson on blessings, confession, god, history, nations, spirituality, and world

We are recipients of God's choicest blessings. We enjoy an abundance of material things beyond that enjoyed by any other nation in the history of the world; but unless we keep alive a realization that all these blessings come from God and are a part of our great spiritual heritage, they may crumble as ashes in our hands. "In nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things and obey not his commandments." (D&C 59:21)

A Quote by Evelyn Underhill on conflict, conviction, death, difficulty, future, ideas, interest, life, needs, possessions, practicality, rules, soul, spirit, spirituality, success, trying, and worry

Most of our conflicts and difficulties come from trying to deal with the spiritual and practical aspects of our life separately instead of realizing them as parts of one whole. If our practical life is centered on our own interests, cluttered up by possessions, distracted by ambitions, passions, wants and worries, beset by a sense of our own rights and importance, or anxieties for our own future, or longings for our own success, we need not expect that our spiritual life will be a contrast to all this. The soul's house is not built on such a convenient plan; there are few soundproof partitions in it. Only when the conviction - not merely the idea - that the demand of the Spirit, however inconvenient, rules the whole of it, will those objectionable noises die down which have a way of penetrating into the nicely furnished little oratory and drowning all the quieter voices by their din.

A simple rule, to be followed whether one is in the light or not, gives backbone to one's spiritual life, as nothing else can.
