Have lunch with a celebrity — for a good cause. Stars from the entertainment, fashion and culinary worlds have custom-designed lunchboxes up for auction to benefit hunger relief.
While a variety of famous folks got crafty for the cause, I particularly liked Cameron Diaz’s because it’s got a green theme. One side shows remnants from an environmentally friendly lunch — a Whole Foods lunch pack, metal fork and reminder to “waste not.” The other side is the opposite, with plastic and paper waste, including a Juicy Juice box.
Others who donated their time and art talent include Gwyneth Paltrow, Mario Batali, cast members from Gossip Girl, Rachael Ray, Eva Mendes and many more.
Funds raised will benefit the Food Bank for New York City and The Lunchbox Fund, which provides lunch to impoverished schoolchildren in South Africa.
All this talk takes me back to my school days and my Annie lunchbox. This was long before the plastic type — mine was tin. I used it until the latch no longer worked, the paint was chipping and it became highly unfashionable to show up at school with a lunch packed in anything other than a wasteful brown paper bag.
It’s nice that the reusable lunchbox (or bag, or tote) is now back “in.”
