Breaking New Ground

Breaking Ground

While in LA this past month, I spent some time at the Agape Spiritual Center and listened to the teachings of its founder, Reverend Michael Beckwith. I was inspired by so much of what he said, and one thing really struck home: “If you are not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space.”

So often we have a dream or a desire to accomplish something, to do something or to create something, but we get stopped in our tracks because we are paralyzed by the fear of failure or fear of discomfort. Instead of facing that fear or going through the discomfort, we give up on our dream.

Beckwith went on to say, “Permanent happiness is guaranteed when you lose yourself to something larger and, at that moment, you are involved with the evolution of your soul, and you are becoming more — not less — than yourself.”

Encoded for success

We are encoded for success, and within every desire is the seed of its fulfillment. Just as within an apple, its seed has all it needs to become a great tree and bear fruit. Just as all its needs are provided by nature, we are also provided for when we devote ourselves beyond just wanting to feel comfortable, or avoiding pain, disappointment and failure. When we are devoted to the growth and the development of our soul, we will experience the happiness that we are longing for.

When the seed is planted, it will grow as long as the environment is right. When we live on the edge, we choose love over fear, and we create the right environment within ourselves to grow, develop and unfold to fulfill our highest potential. When we do this we break new ground, just like the seed breaks through the ground once it has taken root.

While in Southern California this past month, I broke new ground by introducing intenSati to hundreds of people at different Equinox locations. I also trained nine new intenSati leaders who inspired me and made it through an extremely challenging week, as well as our first West Coast Warrior Challenge. And last but certainly not least, I am breaking new ground by celebrating being 22 weeks pregnant. It is a great time for celebrating in my life right now!

My motivating cardio move

Try the intenSati move “Determination” to give yourself that extra push to break through fear and break new ground, just like that seed.

Lift the right knee to your chest as both arms reach high above you. Pull the arms down, elbows back and chest high as you bring the right leg down. Switch to the other side. As you pull and lift the knee right and left, say out loud “I am determined to live it.” The “it” is your infinite potential waiting to unfold. Keep a fast but steady tempo and repeat for 1-3 minutes. You can step it or jump it for extra intensity.

This month you have the opportunity to take a look at where you can break some new ground and grow and develop yourself. Ask yourself what it is you really want to be doing. What is in the way of you doing it? Are you willing to be who you have to be to create the right environment for your growth and development? Can you choose love over fear? Remember, no one is born a warrior, just like no one is born an average man or woman. We make ourselves that way by the accumulation of steps we take towards one or the other. Will you be breaking new ground this month?

  2. As a personal trainer, I have always said that exercise and eating healthy are the easiest parts of losing weight and being healthy. It’s what is going on in the mind and how the person conditions themselves to succeed which are the biggest obstacles to success.
