Signing up for a yoga retreat can be one of the best gifts you can give yourself; or, according to some online reviews, your time away might become your worst nightmare. To make sure that spending time practicing yoga in another environment is a positive experience, visit “Is a Yoga Retreat Right for You?”
A guest post from Jenniferlyn (JL) Chiemingo of The Travel Yogi.
Oh sweet bikini, I love you so much. You are now faded and sand-worn and it’s time to retire you. I don’t want to let you go because you hold so many memories; memories of great beaches, experiences, and even crazy close-up animal encounters. I have grown and changed while wearing you. I have laughed and cried while wearing you. These experiences reside in my heart, but I still associate them with you.

It’s been a couple of weeks since the Hanuman Festival, and the afterglow is still radiating. Hanuman is the first yoga conference I’ve ever attended, so I had no idea what to expect. I anticipated feeling part of a larger yoga community and being pushed out of my yogic comfort zone (in a good way). What I actually received was exponentially more than that.
Our friends at Vega are launching Vega Energizing Smoothie, a delicious and convenient nutrient boost!
Unlike traditional smoothie mixes, you only need water (or juice) to shake and go. Every serving also comes with two servings of veggies; 10 g of complete, plant-based protein; 5 g of fiber and 1 g of Omega-3. Available in four mouth-watering flavors: mixed tropical fruits, chocolate, vanilla almond and berries (plus an unflavored natural).
Get energized and win
Because we’re big smoothie fans here at the Gaiam office, we’re helping celebrate the launch by sponsoring Vega’s Get Energized Photo Contest! From now through July 31, head over to Vega’s Get Energized Photo Contest page on Facebook and show the world how you #GetEnergized.
In the spring of 2007, after the birth of my second beautiful daughter, I relapsed from the eating disorder and severe depression I suffered with in college.
After six months of draining the lives of so many family and friends, I decided to receive intensive therapy once and for all. I was losing my husband, alienating friends and family members and spending days and weeks inside the house. I had two little girls to take care of and I could barely take care of myself.

Stacks of unfinished work, money worries … Burnt out? When was the last time you had a chance to get beyond stretching out the daily knots of life when you unroll your yoga mat? Two words: yoga retreat. It’s probably the best not-so-secret secret in the yoga world. And here’s how you can justify taking one this year.

Since it’ll be several more weeks before I can count on greening grass, blooming trees and mild air, a long weekend getaway can lift my attitude and help sustain my patience. My fantasies tend toward a beach retreat in the Maldives or a week at a fancy spa in the desert somewhere. But when times are tight, even the most avid travelers may need to scale down. I recommend these three affordable eco-friendly getaways that can nurture both you and the earth at the same time. Book a weekend retreat, refresh your memory on eco-friendly travel tips, and your spring break can sustain both your sanity and the environment.
