Since I have yet to have a human child, I have started getting my fur baby involved in my practice. So here are a few tricks for yoga for you and your dog.

Does your child need to unwind his mind?
Aerial yoga is not only safe, but offers unique benefits for child yogis, says Ashley Goldberg, owner of Born Yoga in Birmingham, Michigan.
“Unlike aerial yoga for adults, upside down and challenging poses are done with children in a bucket seat, which prevents them from sliding out,” says Goldberg.
As spring arrives and bathes us in a gorgeous display of floral colors, pack a picnic lunch, some yoga mats, and head outside for an inspiring stretch, courtesy of Mother Nature. Practicing in the open air with your kids is a great way to foster a love, connection, and partnership with our earthly blessings.
The other day, when I was entering the rec center for a class, I passed a woman who was just heading out. She had a long blond ponytail, and over her shoulder was a purple yoga bag with her mat strapped underneath. Following close behind her was her adorable “mini me”—a little girl, about 5 or 6, with a long blond ponytail, toting a rolled-up pink yoga mat almost as big as she was.
Have you ever thought of introducing your children to yoga? Just as yoga has many benefits for adults, it provides a wonderful foundation of mindfulness and body awareness for children. Kids need the tools to handle the ups and downs of life, connect to their body, and tune into their emotional and mental state on a regular basis, and yoga provides a safe space to explore and nurture that.

It’s a new year — a new school year that is — and time to get back to the books! It’s also a great time to get back on track fitness-wise. What better time than now to also get your kids involved in your yoga practice. Kids are naturally interested in any activity that they see their parents doing — at least ours are — so, we bet they will be super excited to practice yoga with you.
Hope, expectation, anticipation, the desire for a certain outcome. Hope is what moves us forward, motivates us and keeps our faith strong during the hard times. Hope is essential for our existence; yet there are times — when the world seems to be in a state of chaos — when it is easy to wonder where hope is.
In thinking about hope and how to find it in our world, I realized that for me, hope comes from my yoga practice and my kids, as both remind me on a constant basis that hope dwells within us, not outside of ourselves, and that in order to tap into that wellspring of hope, it is essential to find the peace within to let hope blossom.
Parenting is a full time job. It’s no wonder many of us have trouble finding time to take care of ourselves and fit fitness into our lives. But in a world where childhood obesity is a national threat and our kids are inundated with technology that makes sitting still all day seem fun, fitness is a crucial life skill we need to be teaching our children. And children learn best by mimicking their parents’ behavior. As a trainer and mom of three teens, I know these ideas for parents of kids in specific age groups make it easier to add more movement and fitness into your family life and your own busy schedule.
