FlowerArrangeJanuary is traditionally a time when we focus on all kinds of self-improvement. We make resolutions to lose weight, get healthier and get more organized. This is also a wonderful time to set an intention to create a healthier home environment — after all, our homes are a reflection of ourselves.

Just like dieting, releasing some of our old useless baggage allows us to become lighter — in body, mind and home! Excess items and habits in our lives weigh us down and make our energy stale. By getting rid of excess, we open up space in homes, our hearts and our minds.

3 ways to lighten up your home for the new year

It just feels good to have less stuff to contend with.

  • Give away clothes and donate items to charitable organizations — it’s a great way to free yourself up.
  • Get information and tips on how to recycle many things at GaiamLife.com or Earth911.
  • If the process seems daunting, start with one closet, or even a drawer just to start the chi flowing.  I also work with home organizers, for all kinds of budgets, who help my clients get rid of their excess pounds (of closet weight).

Since the universe abhors a vacuum, now you get to shop! Right now there are bargains galore on every item for the home, as well as people offering fantastic discounts on their trade talent. I am currently having my 1930s bathroom painted a parchment white by the most darling (and very inexpensive) painter. It’s a great time to get that ‘loved in look’ for less!

Let your home serve and support you with grace, love and light so that you can make positive changes in other areas of your life, or even follow through with that New Year’s resolution to make greener choices. Vitalize your home and vitalize your life.

Welcome in all radiant new energy in 2010!

Blessings for a beautiful, healthy home,

Cheryl

  1. I totally need to do some of this. I am one of the biggest pack rats I know, and I am always bringing home more “bargains”. Some of our closets I even have to push the clothes in to close the door! There are dust bunnies I can’t reach because of stuff in the way. I don’t suppose it’s any coincidence that I have also gained 12 pounds over the last year :<(

  3. New Year, new beginnings. Designing your own eco-home is quite simple especially when you already have an idea on what you really want. One great energy saving tip is to get yourself the “right window film”. You can find out more about window film at (We do not allow links in comments), like most window films are for reducing solar heat gain in the summer, low-e films both block summer heat and improve winter heat retention. Be informed about the unbiased facts on the types window films that are available in the market that suit your needs. Getting the “right window tint” is not only practical but also eco-friendly.
