Rekindle Your Resolution: Taking Action and Moving Forward

As we enter into our third month of 2010, it’s a good time to stop and ask ourselves how we are doing. I declared 2010 to be the year that we say, “If not now, when?”

What did you declare you would finally do this year that you haven’t done in the past? Do you remember what you declared, or did you let it go already?

This month, I want to remind you to stop and pay attention to the direction of your year so far. Remember that your year will continue to go in that direction unless something changes. When we say we want to make a change [2] or improve our life situation in some way, we have to be willing to give something up in order for that change to occur. But, it’s not just an old habit [3] you are giving up; you are giving up a way of being or a lifestyle that no longer suits you, which you have outgrown or no longer feels good to you.

Whether it’s your health [4], your weight [5], your love life [6] or your career [7] that you want to improve, you must be willing to give up the old for the new — and that includes giving up thoughts [8] that you can’t do it, that you’re not good enough or that it’s too hard. Have you ever declared you were ready to make a change and then in the next breath said, “But it will be too hard, I can’t do it”? In those cases, I believe that you are arguing for your limitations rather than your excellence.

Is it really that hard? Or is it harder to settle for living a life where you are numbing yourself to the point that you no longer feel any passion, joy, inspiration or love? The practice of intenSati isn’t about attaining or acquiring things. It’s about awakening yourself to the magic of life and to the beauty of the creative process, and being a participant in creating a life that reflects your true nature and your true self. When we choose to evolve, we challenge ourselves to break free of old conditioning, old thoughts, old habits and a robotic and reactive state of mind. Then, we are able to open ourselves up to consciously choose to try something new and challenge the lies we tell ourselves, like, “I am not good enough.” We wake up. We become more conscious and more alive. We become our true selves.

Let’s use this month to take action and rekindle the inspiration we felt at the beginning of the year. Let’s restate our intention [9] and practice taking actions that will help us wake up and reveal our excellence, our earnestness, our sincerity and our devotion to living a life we love in a body we love now!

Rewrite your intention for 2010

Write it down regardless if you didn’t do it at the first of the year or have more than one. Just write it down. Now write down the actions you can take this month that will help you let go of the old way of being and give life to a new way of being. No matter how big or small your intention, there is always something that you can do today. Focus on what you can do, and don’t let what you think you can’t do stop you.

Now, if you are like many others and can easily write down what you think you can do but know that you won’t because you don’t “feel like it,” make a promise to challenge yourself to drop that way of being and, instead, create a habit of excellence.

Here is an example of what I’m doing this month

  • I get up and meditate [10] every morning whether I feel like it or not.
  • I work out five days a week for one hour a day whether I feel like it or not.
  • I do not eat sugar [11] whether I feel like it or not.
  • I eat healthy food, mostly plants, most of the time whether I feel like it or not.
  • I make the phone calls and requests I need to make whether I feel like it or not.

What are you willing to take action on, whether you feel like it or not, in order to help you drop the old way and empower the new way? Visualizing is only one part of the recipe for success; at some point you need to get yourself off the couch, build some self discipline, get up and get moving [12]. If you wait until you “feel like it,” you might be waiting for a very long time. March yourself into some powerful action and build some new muscle. Motivate yourself to do what you really want to do, one day at a time, starting today.

Here’s a great way to start

Try DETACHMENT, one of my favorite intenSati moves, to the affirmation, “It is done!” When we take action, we align the integrity in ourselves to do what we say we will do and build power and confidence.

Stand with your feet slightly hip-width apart and bend your knees. Bend your elbows and slice your hands as fast as you can in front of you, like you are washing your cares away. With the arms still moving, lean to the left for four counts and say out loud, “It is done!” Then lean to the right for four counts and say, “It is done!” Try it for one to three minutes.

By saying “It is done,” we call forth the knowledge that what we want is on its way with confidence and faith! Oftentimes, we avoid taking action because we fear the result. When we detach from an outcome and let go of the results, we give ourselves a great opportunity to move ahead, toward our dreams.
