A Quote by Robert L. Carothers on abuse, alcohol, behavior, culture, day, depression, drugs, environment, judgment, learning, reality, students, and time

We cannot build the new culture for learning to which we aspire in an environment which is depressed and dampened every day by the impact of alcohol and drug abuse, and we should not, and we cannot, hide from that reality any longer. More and more of our students are demanding that they not be imposed upon by others whose judgment and behavior are impaired by substance abuse. It is time to take a stand . . .

We have but one rule here, and that is that every student must be a gentleman.

A Quote by Richard Phillips Feynman on graduation, physics, schools, students, and understanding

What I am going to tell you about is what we teach our physics students in the third or fourth year of graduate school . . . It is my task to convince you not to turn away because you don't understand it. You see my physics students don't understand it . . . That is because I don't understand it. Nobody does.

A Quote by Ric Ocasek on business, day, good, intelligence, justice, learning, music, needs, people, performance, play, schools, students, and teachers

While I was in Ann Arbor I heard that Boston was a good place to play acoustic music because they still had plenty of clubs. So I moved to Cambridge. I roomed with a Harvard student. I got an apartment the first day I got to town by going to Harvard housing, so I could get cheaper rates, $80 a month or something. I even went to some Harvard classes, just to sit in, because I enjoyed the performance of the professors. The teachers were always so theatrical at Harvard, intelligent show business people, that could keep your attention, and that I think, is the great advantage of Harvard. So I used to go for the show, no matter what subject it was. You could just drop in to a class and watch, it wouldn't matter if you went to the school. No one even asked. The show was good and you would learn something, but you wouldn't get any credit for it. I didn't need the credit

A Quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson on college, education, memory, nature, popularity, schools, students, truth, and words

The popular education has been taxed with a want of truth and nature. . . . We are students of words: we are shut up in schools, and colleges, and recitation-rooms, for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bag of wind, a memory of words, and do not know a thing.

A Quote by Pierce Lewis on good, love, mind, questions, soul, students, and teaching

There are three requisites for good teaching: One, you have to love your subject; two, you have to know what you're talking about; three, you have to like students. The question is whether you can make an impact on somebody's mind and soul.

A Quote by Peter Robinson on business, joy, and students

Sometimes during the two-year curriculum, every MBA student ought to hear it clearly stated that numbers, techniques, and analysis are all side matters. What is central to business is the joy of creating.

A Quote by Paul R. Halmos on christmas and students

... the student skit at Christmas contained a plaintive line: "Give us Master's exams that our faculty can pass, or give us a faculty that can pass our Master's exams."
