Social Justice

The surest way to take away the rights of a group is to conceive of them in the abstract, as an amorphous blob rather than a collection of individual persons.

My passionate sense of social justice and social responsibility has always contrasted oddly with my pronounced lack of need for direct contact with other human beings and human communities.  I am truly a "lone traveler" and have never belonged to my country, my home, my friends, or even my immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all these ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude - feelings which increase with the years.

There will be no Homeland Security until we realize that the entire planet is our homeland. Every sentient being in the world must feel secure.

Is life worth living?
Yes, so long as there is wrong to right.
So long as faith with freedom reigns and loyal hope survives,
And gracious charity remains to leaven lowly lives;
While there is only one untrodden tract for intellect or will,
And men are free to think and act,
Life is worth living still.

We need a revolution in the West:  not violent overthrow, but a willingness to take responsibility for the course of history being set forth in our names.  We need a revolution determined to activate broad, inclusive social change.

A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury.
