The Lord has literally poured out His spirit upon all flesh, as the accomplishments of man today give full witness. It is significant that this great thrust forward in man's achievement and progress and this pouring out of knowledge is not confined to any one nation or people, but it seems that new knowledge from heaven comes simultaneously to every advanced, civilized nation. No nation has a corner on the knowledge God is pouring down from heaven upon all flesh. With this great flood of knowledge and light, men, not recognizing its source, do become imbued with self-importance and power. Recently a Russian scientist, E. T. Fadeyev, head of the scientific-atheistic section of the journal Science and Life, is quoted as saying: Successful flights of earth satellites and rockets cast doubt on the existence of God and refute religious dogma. Rockets and satellites have encountered no angels nor discovered a Supreme Being. Religious dogma holds that it is possible to ascend to heaven only through divine intervention. But in an age of jet aircraft and high altitude rockets, artificial earth satellites and interplanetary ships, it is comical to argue that man cannot reach the heavens. (Los Angeles Herald.)

As the opportunity grows for unlimited growth and progress, the chances of failure increase. There is no such thing as a program that will provide security and growth and progress with no risk . . . even within the church. As freedom for unrestricted development is enhanced, the possibilities for failure are also increased. The risk factor is great.

If necessity is the mother of invention, discontent is the father of progress.

Free agency is the impelling source of the soul's progress. It is the purpose of the Lord that man become like him. In order for man to achieve this it was necessary for the Creator first to make him free.

Law is justice. And it is under the law of justice - under the reign of right; under the influence of liberty, safety, stability, and responsibility - that every person will attain his real worth and the true dignity of his being. It is only under this law of justice that mankind will achieve - slowly, no doubt, but certainly - God's design for the orderly and peaceful progress of humanity.

When blocked or defeated in an enterprise I had much at heart, I always turned immediately to another field of work where progress looked possible, biding my time for a chance to resume the obstructed road.

There is no excellence anywhere without labor. We would think a man foolish indeed who would say, "l am willing that my business should prosper, or that my farm should yield plentifully, but I'll not stir a peg." But he is no more foolish than the man who says, "I am willing that God should bless me abundantly, but I shall not do anything toward that end myself." We must consistently rely upon the help of the Lord, but we will not make any progress or meet with any success unless we put forth an earnest effort.

Great steps in human progress are made by things that don't work the way philosophy thought they should. If things always worked the way they should, you could write the history of the world from now on. But they don't, and it is those deviations from the normal that make human progress.
