progress

A Quote by Marianne Craig Moore on progress

The wrinkles progress among themselves in a phalanx-beautiful under networks of foam, and fade breathlessly while the sea rustles in and out of the seaweed.

Marianne Moore (1887 - 1972)

A Quote by Luther Burbank on blessings, children, evolution, fulfillment, god, happiness, health, humanity, intelligence, life, love, nature, observation, plants, principles, progress, simplicity, and world

I see humanity now as one vast plant, needing for its highest fulfillment only love, the natural blessings of the great outdoors, and intelligent crossing and selection. In the span of my own lifetime I observed such wondrous progress in plant evolution that I look forward optimistically to a healthy, happy world as soon as its children are taught the principles of simple and rational living. We must return to nature and nature's god.

A Quote by Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein on civilization, clarity, and progress

Our civilization is characterized by the word "progress." Progress is its form rather than making progress being one of its features. Typically it constructs. It is occupied with building an ever more complicated structure. And even clarity is seldom sought.

A Quote by Louis Ruthenburg on ability, accuracy, art, management, patience, persistence, progress, reflection, and sincerity

The technical progress of industry has been a reflection of our ability to apply increasingly accurate methods of measurement to material things. The art of measuring psychological human dimensions is relatively undeveloped. To all of the complexities of management we must bring to bear infinite patience and persistence, consistency and complete sincerity.

A Quote by Justice Louis Dembitz Brandeis on america, belief, happiness, lies, progress, and path

America has believed that in differentiation, not in uniformity, lies the path of progress. It acted on this belief; it has advanced human happiness, and it has prospered.

A Quote by Lorenzo Snow on brevity, discovery, happiness, history, humanity, impossibility, improvement, intelligence, inventions, justice, liberty, life, progress, sharing, and world

A new century dawns upon the world today. The hundred years just completed were the most momentous in the history of man upon this planet. It would be impossible in a hundred days to make even a brief summary of the notable events, the marvelous developments, the grand achievements and the beneficial inventions and discoveries, which mark the progress of the ten decades now left behind in the ceaseless march of humanity. The very mention of the nineteenth century suggested advancement, improvement, liberty and light. Happy are we to have lived amidst its wonders and shared in the riches of its treasures of intelligence!

A Quote by Lewis Schwellenbach on laws, mankind, nature, progress, security, society, and welfare

Every right has its responsibilities. Like the right itself, these responsibilities stem from no man-made law, but from the very nature of man and society. The security, progress and welfare of one group is measured finally in the security, progress and welfare of all mankind.

A Quote by LaVell Edwards on church, coaching, decisions, direction, encouragement, football, growth, improvement, life, opportunity, potential, progress, and responsibility

I feel that the progress I have made as a coach, as well as a person, is a direct result of the growth that I have made through my Church callings. I had the opportunity to serve as a bishop in a campus ward while I was still an assistant coach. When I was appointed head football coach in 1972, I decided to approach my role as a coach much the same as I did as a bishop, delegating responsibility to my assistants, putting responsibility on the players for self-improvement in all aspects of their lives, and using personal interviews with players to try to give positive reinforcement and encouragement so that they might do their very best and reach their full potential, both on and off the field.

A Quote by King Hussein of Jordan on challenge, defense, destiny, destruction, generations, laws, lies, life, military, mistakes, morality, nations, practicality, problems, progress, questions, religion, resolution, risk, technology, war, weapons, and wo

One of the most dramatic examples of the gaps between the world's technological progress and moral rectitude is nuclear weapons. The material tools of destruction have become so powerful that the world now lives under the constant shadow of total annihilation. The stakes are enormous, and mistakes never carried a higher risk. It is no longer a question of self-defense. It is a question of self-preservation. Nuclear war is not a military problem. It is a moral dilemma. The nuclear race involves not only a negation of law, but a negation of morality. The problem cannot be solved by practical expediency. Its only resolution lies in the application of the moral imperatives on which our religions and your nation was founded. This problem will be one of your generations' greatest challenges. How well equipped you are to handle it will determine your destiny.
