patience

A Quote by Saint Ephraim the Syrain on god, christianity, prayer, spirituality, wisdom, humility, patience, love, change, and growth

Prayer is converse with God, equal honor with the Angels, progress in good things, averting of evils, righting of sinners.

A Quote by Saint Ephraim the Syrain on god, christianity, prayer, spirituality, wisdom, humility, patience, love, change, and growth

O Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, meddling, lust of power, and idle talk.  But give rather the spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love to Thy servant.  Yea, O Lord and King, grant me to see my own sins and not to judge my brother; for Thou art blessed unto ages of ages.  Amen.

A Quote by unknown on god, gifts, man, riches, patience, humility, authority, justice, virtues, and illness

Saint Peter Damaskin writes about the general and particular gifts of God and says: "The general gifts consist of four elements and all which result from them, as all the wonderful and awesome works of God outlined in Holy Scripture. The particular gifts are those gifts which God bestows upon every man individually whether it be riches for the sake of charity or poverty for the sake of patience with humility; whether it be authority for the sake of justice and the strengthening of virtues or subjugation and slavery for the sake of the expeditious salvation of the soul; be it health for the sake of helping the infirm or illness for the sake of the wreath of patience; be it understanding and skill in gain for the sake of virtue or weakness and lack of skill for the sake of submissive humility. All of this, even though it appears contrary to one another, nevertheless, it is by its purpose very good." In conclusion, St. Peter Damaskin says that we are obligated to give thanks to God for all gifts and with patience and hope to endure all tribulations and evil consequences. For all of that which God gives us or permits to befall us, benefits our salvation.

A Quote by St. Nicolai Vilimirovich on god, patience, forgiveness, joy, love, spirituality, psychology, and transcendent

Patience, forgiveness and joy are the three greatest characteristics of divine love.  They are characteristics of all real love - if there is such a thing as real love outside of divine love.  Without these three characteristics, love is not love.  If you give the name 'love' to anything else, it is as though you were giving the name 'sheep' to a goat or a pig.

A Quote by Abbot Nikon on god, christianity, freedom, wisdom, patience, hope, rewards, love, and peace

God's boundless wisdom has given each person a cross according to his/her character and strength.  If we carry our cross without grumbling, repent of our sins, and do not justify ourselves, then like the good thief we shall enter God's Kingdom.  But if we grumble, if we blaspheme God or our neighbor, we shall perish like the wicked thief---in great torment, with out hope of salvation to lessen our grief.  The choice lies in our own hands.  We must be wise like the repentant thief.  None of us will escape the cross.  Let us ease its weight through faith in God, resistance to sin, repentance, forgiveness of all our close ones, endurance of sorrows without murmuring, and prayer to the Lord.

It is strange that the years teach us patience; that the shorter our time, the greater our capacity for waiting.
