To excel is to continually perform. Not for a moment or moments. Not for a day or for days. But to perform day after day, month after month, and make that uncommon performance look commonplace. To excel is to take the inner drive of competition and not only embrace it, but master it.It is no wonder that when one truly excels, one is known for excellence. It cannot be bought or legislated or willed into existence. It must come from the depths of an individual's desire to be the best.
Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don't have to know Einstein's Theory of Relativity to serve. You don't have to know the Second Theory of Thermodynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they're not dead really. They're just backing away from life. Reach out, take a chance, get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team! Go! Gimme an L! Gimme an I! Gimme a V! Gimme an E! L-I-V-E, LIVE! Otherwise you got nothin' to talk about in the locker room.
I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be "Happy". I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all, to matter: to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you have lived at all.
