A Quote by Michael Pollan on gardeners, weeds, environment, ecology, dualism, and dichotomy

For though we may be the Earth's gardeners, we are also its weeds.  And we won't get anywhere until we come to terms with this crucial ambiguity about our role - that we are at once the problem and the only possible solution to the problem.

A Quote by Kaya McLaren on place, geography, happiness, choice, cedars, cactus, environment, bloom, kaya mclaren, and church of the dog

There are people who say that you should be able to be happy wherever you are, and how happiness is completely a matter of choice. I don't buy that. Cacti don't grow in Alaska and cedar trees don't grow in Arizona. I don't pretend to know the laws of nature, but it's clear to me that some things do better in some places and other things do better in others. I don't see why people should be any different... I prefer not to have anyone blow sunshine up my ass about happiness being total choice.

A Quote by Aldo Leopold on land and environment

We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us.

When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.

A Quote by Nassim Nicholas Taleb on complexity, environment, and ecology

Don’t disturb complicated systems that have been around for a very long time. We don’t understand their logic. Don’t pollute the planet. Leave it the way we found it, regardless of scientific ‘evidence’.
