I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475 - 1564)

If people knew how hard I have had to work to gain my mastery, it wouldn't seem wonderful at all.
My soul can find no staircase to Heaven unless it be through Earth's loveliness.
If it be true that any beautiful thing raises the pure and just desire of man from earth to God, the eternal fount of all, such I believe my love.
Beauty is the purgation of superfluities.
I live and love in God's peculiar light.
Genius is eternal patience.
Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish.
Lord, grant that I may always desire more than I accomplish.
Death and love are the two wings that bear the good man to heaven.
