Put a Little Jingle in Your Workout
Holiday fun can wear you down — eating, drinking and festivities can take their toll on you mentally and physically. While a workout may seem like the last thing you have the time or energy for, it can enliven your spirit and alleviate stress. Think you have to choose between fitness and fun? Not so! Incorporate elements of the holiday season into your workout routine and you’ll add variety and interest and increase your motivation and enjoyment. Here are some ideas to help you put the holiday spirit into your workout:
1. Jingle while you jog.
Load up your MP3 player with holiday tunes and walk or jog around your neighborhood. Take in your surroundings and enjoy the holiday decorations.
2. Show your true colors.
Wear your favorite holiday socks during your workout. You know you have them — the ones with Santa on them, or maybe holly, or smiling reindeer? Put them on and sweat!
3. Decorate your workout space.
Brighten it up with holiday lights, greenery, or other holiday decorations. Enjoy them as you lift weights, do a few cardio moves or find peace on your yoga mat.
3. Build a snowman.
Yes, it’s exercise. First, shovel a path so you can get out of your house and enjoy your yard. Then lie down and create a few snow angels. Finally, roll up some balls of snow and make not just one snowman but your own snow family. You’ll feel like a kid again, and burn calories like one too!
4. Bank on it.
Volunteer at your local food bank. Sort and stock cans, pack boxes and bags and help distribute them. The bending and lifting is great physical exercise, and your heart will grow two sizes.
Happy Holidays!
