Not Ready For Solar? Buy Green Power & Get Started!

Posted By John Schaeffer On March 10, 2008 @ 12:28 am In Green Living | 5 Comments

Living completely off all grids (electric, water, phone, internet, and social) as I have for many years, I get spoiled and jaded all in green. It sometimes makes me forget how many people just don’t have the solar option. But even for you there are many ways to go green that don’t cost an arm and a leg and that will make you feel a whole lot better about yourself and your impact on the Planet.

I learned about a great organization called the Center for Resource Solutions [1], where I received the ‘Green Pioneer Award’ last October at their conference in Philadelphia. I learned a ton about green power for urban homes through purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs) and through ‘green pricing programs’ sponsored by local utilities.

Check out the U.S. Department of Energy’s organization called Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. They have put together a wonderful website [2]that shows a myriad of green power programs in almost every state (over 500 utilities in over 30 states!) and gives you concrete ideas on what you can do to save money and lessen your carbon footprint. Check their chart of Green Pricing Programs by State [3]to really get you started.

So just because you’re not quite ready to go solar [4] is no excuse to continue your wasteful ways. It’s easy being green and these valuable websites can help you get started painlessly!

For the Earth,
