Woman’s Lifeline: Create a Nurturing Practice for Every Stage of Life

A consistent yoga practice supports women physically, emotionally, and spiritually—but adapting your practice to meet your needs at each juncture is vital. You’ll get the most from a practice customized for each stage in life and how you’re feeling on any given day. Taking time to be aware of what’s happening in your life, in your body, and with your emotions is the key to getting the most from what yoga can offer you, all through your life. (YogaJournal)

Engagingly Green Bags

I spotted Leonor Mendoza’s super-cool Engage Green bags in Grand Central at the Christmas Bazaar as I was zooming by to catch a bus to JFK airport, and I had to stop! They first caught my eye because they are gorgeous, and second because I could tell they were made of unusual materials. My eye didn’t lie: Leonor constructs her bags variously from recycled paper and plastic, cork, organic cotton and hemp. (Eco Chick)

Vegan Shoes Designed by Natalie Portman

Academy Award-nominated actress and now…fashion designer? A vegan frustrated by the lack of animal-friendly footwear, Natalie Portman teamed up with fashion house Té Casan to make this elegant line of designer women’s shoes. Make sure to check out the very sexy Pippa and Pixie! All proceeds will be donated to the Nature Conservancy, a non profit dedicated to protecting ecologically fragile lands and bodies of water. Ohio to Chevy Tahoe Hybrid Drivers: Get Out of the Carpool Lane!

As hybrid technology has been applied to more and more large SUVs and high-performance sedans, some have come to question whether allowing all hybrids in carpool lanes is truly productive. Now, the state of Ohio is “changing laws that allow any hybrid into the HOV lane. This means that GM’s SUV hybrids are no longer allowed in the get-to-work-on-time lanes.” (Treehugger)

Downer and out: Will this be the cow-tipping point for the U.S. beef industry?

The Humane Society has managed to get graphic footage of workers at a California slaughterhouse using forklifts, high-pressure water sprays, wooden sticks, and electric shocks to get sick cattle up on their feet so they can pass USDA inspection and be processed into America’s food supply. (Ethicurean)

Super Bowl Snack: Make Your Own Hummus

The Super Bowl seems to be a lot about snacking, and it’s easy to eat mindlessly when there are munchables right in front of you. So if you’re throwing a Super Bowl party or attending someone else’s, forget the cheesy nachos, buttery popcorn, and creamy veggie dips. Make some homemade hummus instead. It is so simple to make yourself and fresh veggies go so well with hummus. (FitSugar)
