How many times a day do you look in the mirror and wish you didn’t look how you look or worry about how old you are getting? Do you ever stand there and point out all the things you don’t like? Do you ever walk down the street saying how stupid you are or how you wish you were prettier or smarter?
When we criticize ourselves in any way we are only intensifying the very feelings we wish we weren’t feeling. Every time you critique yourself in the mirror or repeat in your head all the qualities about yourself that you don’t like, you are affirming or giving creative energy to the very you don’t want.
Don’t believe in the power of affirmations? All you have to do is notice your daily self-talk and see if your life reflects it.
We rarely change the way we speak to our self; our inner voice is just a reflection of how we feel or what we fear or believe. But your self talk is creative and commanding. It impacts the quality of your life in this moment and in the future. If you want to create and live a life you love in a body you love, it has to begin with loving and accepting the life and the body you already have.
Pay attention to the words you use, especially the words you use on yourself. How can you catch the negative inner talk? Notice how you feel. When you don’t feel good, that is a warning! Are you holding a thought or repeating an affirmation that is deflating your power? STOP.
Apologize to yourself and repeat the words, “I love and accept myself exactly as I am” until you feel some relief. Then choose a better-feeling thought like, “I deserve and accept the best,” or “I am loved and I am loving. I am powerful now and I believe I will succeed.”
The choice is always yours! Be kind to yourself. Begin to love and approve of yourself if you want to express yourself at your highest potential.
