How to Solve the Low-Energy Blahs

I have a great new exercise for you to try if you are feeling low energy and you can’t get motivated . The first step is to ask yourself if you really want to feel better. Second, rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 on your present state and then pick a number on that scale that you want to move up to and be as specific as you can as to what you would be feeling and acting like if you met that goal. For instance, you might say: I am tired, I don’t feel like doing anything, all I want to do is sit on the couch and watch TV and eat cookies. On a scale of 1-10, I am a 4 because I am not really sad, just feeling low energy and lazy.
What would you like to feel like? I would like to feel like working out. I want to have more energy to do things like take the dance class I have been wanting to take. And if I could do that a couple of times a week I would feel really proud of myself. In order to get myself off this couch and out the door to dance class I would have to be a 7 on a scale of 1-10.
Would you be willing to do a 5 minute exercise to get yourself to a level 7? You have to be willing to do the exercises fully and completely for 5 minutes and really give it your all to make a difference. Would you do it? If, so here’s how: Find a song you really like that makes you feel happy and energized, if you don’t have a song or access to one don’t worry you can do it without. Get up, put on the music as loud as you can and do an outrageous dance. That means, dance around in the most outrageous way you can possibly think of. In fact don’t think. Imagine your goal is to make anyone who might see you or yourself laugh because of how ridiculous you are dancing around. While you are doing this dance say to yourself, like you are singing a song, and out loud is even better, “Everyday in everyway I feel better and better, YES!” Then when you are done with your 5 minutes sit down and close your eyes and picture yourself doing what you really want to be doing with energy and ease and loving it. If you do this exercise when you feel tired, you will be able to get yourself out of a lazy rut. The mistake we make is, we wait to feel like doing something before we do it and when it comes to exercise that is a big mistake. Doing exercise increases your energy, lifts your mood, and makes you feel happier. Don’t wait to feel energetic to move, move because you want to feel more energetic.
Got it? Get up and get yourself to do what you wish you would do. You are worth it.
