Summertime is here and it’s time to be comfortable in your own body. It’s that time of year when the sun is out (hopefully) and so are the swimsuits. Don’t miss out on fun in the sun because you’re worried about those last 10-20 pounds or the belly fat — do something about it! Here are a few dieting and exercise tips that will help you feel good and look good for summer.
Foods to help you say goodbye to belly fat (and those last 10-20 pounds!)
A great way to start the day, these high-fiber friends will ward off unhealthy cravings and keep your energy levels up through the morning.
Another high-fiber food that can help with that unwanted belly fat. They have many health benefits, as they are loaded with vitamins A, C and E, as well as various minerals.
Packed with protein and good (monounsaturated) fats, nuts help regulate food cravings and belly fat.
EAT, EAT, EAT your greens! Not only are they packed with vitamins and minerals, but they are also low in calories and very high in fiber. In particular, asparagus, broccoli and spinach are great combatants of the belly-fat monster.
There are many other foods that can help with belly fat, but I find these the most effective and accessible. I also find that taking some magnesium before bed helps with belly fat as well as stress. You get better sleep and it helps lower cortisol levels that cause excess belly and body fat.
Exercises to whittle your middle
While it is important to combine all forms of training, cardio is the best way to feel good and the most effective way to drop the belly fat and overall pounds. It is important to remember not to just go through the motions. Make sure you are out of breath; if your legs are just burning, but you’re not out of breath, then you should push through the pain as much as you can. It’s when your body is starved for oxygen that you get real results. (I could give you the science behind it, but I’ll save you the time — Just do it!)
Building muscle not only helps burn more fat at rest, it is the best way to shape the body. Be an artist with your own body. Take a look in the mirror and see what you want to do with your body and use resistance training to help you sculpt your masterpiece.
Once you get the weight off — and even before — training the core is a great way to give you a well-balanced physique and, more obviously, help trim the waist, giving you more confidence in that summer swimsuit.
Don’t let this summer go without being able to enjoy your body and the sun. Let us know how it goes!
