Woman doing yoga at workHere at Gaiam, we don’t just walk the walk — we pose the pose. Many of us really do keep up a regular yoga practice, and yes, we love to use our Gaiam yoga mats, bags, straps, blocks and clothes. We also count ourselves lucky that we can do yoga at work — either on our own at the on-site gym or at weekly on-site yoga classes. There’s truly nothing like Warrior Pose to start the workday or Savasana to melt away stress at the end of it.

Blue Footed Booby

Blue-footed Booby in the Galapagos

How would you like to win a 7-night Galapagos Islands cruise for two aboard an Ecoventura yacht, recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly outfitters in the islands? Imagine anchoring in turquoise bays, zipping ashore in small rafts and lazing on sandy beaches, empty but for colonies of curious sea lions and nonchalant iguanas sunning on the lava shoreline. Blue-footed boobies nest along island trails while albatross and frigate birds soar overhead. The wonders beneath the waves are just as amazing, as you snorkel with penguins and sea turtles.

Three 'tween girls in Pretty Brainy tees

By Heidi A. Olinger

At age 7, my niece Ryanne was exuberant, active and inquisitive. She wanted to start a newspaper, but asked how to do so and make a profit. Her father thought she was uncoordinated, but that did not stop Ryanne from choreographing and dancing. She enjoyed astronomy and asked, “Aunt Heidi, when you get to the edge of the universe, what comes next?”

Sea Turtle

Treasured creatures of the sea

Last year when I was in the Galapagos, one of the highlights of this extraordinary wildlife adventure was a chance to snorkel with Pacific green sea turtles.

They are exquisitely graceful creatures, flapping gently beneath the waves in search of food, their wizened faces close enough at times to touch — although we didn’t, of course.

It's never too late to share how important someone is to you.

Recently, someone I work with made the transition. The death was sudden and unexpected. Many people were shocked, upset and in a state of disbelief. It made me start thinking that we can so easily take people for granted. We can so easily think that they will always be here. In fact, often times we are immersed in unrealistic expectations of others and, when they do not respond as we would like, we move into a state of judgment and blame. We withdraw or push them aside, thinking we will deal with this later.  Sometimes that later never comes.

Earth in Hands

Recently, I heard that around $50 million was raised during a telethon for Haiti. This raised my spirits enough to get me through another round of sun salutations. Sometimes I feel so helpless when dealing with the larger tragedies of life that it puts me into a depressed tailspin.
