Yoga for Cross Training

Back in the day when I was a ballet dancer, I was using yoga as a way to balance my body and my emotional states of being.  Yoga was extraordinary in balancing my dance body and advancing my abilities in dance.  Injury prevention, improving coordination, balancing right and left sides, breath awareness and integration, greater relaxation in all situations, and mindfulness, were some of the main benefits that yoga gave to my dance career.

Yoga as a cross-training endeavor cannot be surpassed.  No matter what sport you participate in, your body always needs to be balanced.  It is like aligning the wheels of your car.  The performance is better and the longevity increases.  The balancing of the body in yoga happens very simply: All poses are done to both sides.  In the poses, you are always looking for and exploring your center.  You find your full range of movement in every joint with a large variety of postures that require different rhythms and coordinations.  Just as much as the physical benefits, come mental concentration and awareness.  You learn how to concentrate in your body through precise alignment and you increase awareness through constant observation of body sensations, thoughts, and emotional shifts.

With a simple but complete yoga practice one is given the ultimate cross training for any sport and the ultimate balance for everyday life.  This is the reason behind my development of the program Yoga for Cross Training.  Please check it out, and feel the difference yoga can make.

  1. It is true. As a result of my yoga practice mostly using Rodney Yee videos, I am exceptionally flexible despite my 60 years. It balances with weights and swimming to keep me fit.
