Although green is the new black and the stereotype of environmentalists as the socks-and-sandals crowd is fading, many of us still don’t identify ourselves as environmentalists. We’re not going to abandon our style, and we don’t believe hip equals green for the average Jane.

But if you think about it, being a virtuous consumer can actually make you more beautiful — and not just on the inside.

peace-thoughtful-tee1Okay, so I know organic food is better for you. But I have to admit I thought organic cotton clothing was something for the very rich and picky.

Then a few months ago I laid eyes on a T-shirt I loved that was made of organic cotton, and it didn’t look snobbish at all. It was cute and had a great line: Peace. And it helps support charities too.

Clothing arrives at the warehouse in Yangon

Donated clothing arrives in bundles at a warehouse in Yangon

Over 65 suitcase-sized bags of children’s clothing have been delivered so far to Burmese youngsters in need, thanks to donations by employees here in our Gaiam offices and other clothing drives by organizations like HOPE.
