Start Your Yoga Practice with 3 Building Blocks
The first exposure to yoga is crucial. Most of us identify and define subjects so quickly — we build an entire framework for our understanding of a subject sometimes within our first couple of encounters.
Experienced teachers who comprehend the enormity of the subject of yoga can plant seeds of technique, philosophy, questions and ideas that will carry the student to a lifelong dialog with the mind, body, breath and spirit.
Constantly observing, playing, evaluating and contemplating on a daily basis with the building blocks of yoga formulates a foundation on which the inquiry of yoga can stand:
Philosophy paves the way for skill in action within the yoga poses. …
Creating ideal alignment — sacred geometry — within the poses leads to ease of breath. …
Ease of breath is the doorstep to meditation, which brings steadiness of mind.
Steering a student in the beginning of this inquiry is paramount. Colleen and I teach some of these essential building blocks in our new program called Rodney Yee’s Yoga for Beginners. Please enjoy and learn from the Sun Salutations how-to clip above, taken from this new DVD. It’s a taste of the guidance we can share to help build a strong foundation for your home practice.
Welcome to the yoga journey.
Namasté,
Rodney

[...] Im doing yoga (Rodney Yee. I love me some Yee) & being present while I do [...]
I have been using an old Rodney Yee video called “Back Care Yoga for Beginners” with my students for years. It is perfect pace and time and several of the poses are done with a chair which is great for school. Anyway, the video plum wore out and I cannot find a DVD and/or video of it anywhere. Any suggstions? I’m desperate! Thanks a million, susan
I’m brand new to Yoga. I’ve been using my Robert Yee for Beginners DVD for about 2 weeks. I’ve got low back issues so am very careful not to go to the point of stress or strain. I always feel energized and rejuvenated after my session and can’t imagine going a day without at least some poses.
I visited my chiropractor today and she found muscle spasms in my lower back and branching up toward my shoulders. She’s been my DC for over a year and is pretty familiar with my back and muscle issues, I’m definitely at type A personality! She thinks that my problems are from repetition actions that are causing a strain, thus the spasms and inflammation. I work in a health food store so I’m constantly stocking shelves, moving stock, etc etc. so it could be a multitude of things causing my problem.
I’m looking for advice…..is my yoga helping or hurting ???
thank you and any advice is appreciated!
