10 Ways to Stay Motivated Even as the New Year Buzz Wanes

From time to time we all need a little motivation. Whenever I need to refocus my efforts, which can happen quite easily after the initial buzz of a new year wears off, I take a look at my top ten list. It changes a little from time to time, but for the most part, these are the principles that keep me on the right track. They are in no particular order, because they are all equally important.
1. Cut out the processed foods
Don’t eat it if it doesn’t grow, run or swim. In other words, eat real food. Sure, we all want a little something processed or decadent every now and then, but don’t waste too much time on junk .
2. Schedule yourself in
Schedule your workouts . You schedule everything else. You are just as important.
3. Empty your cup
Cut down on alcohol; it’s just empty calories. (I struggle with this one!)
Go to bed. You must get your sleep . When you sleep you get your three R’s: you rest, repair and rejuvenate your body, and your mind.
5. Love what you do
Do what you love… or you won’t do it. It might be videos, running, walking, biking, dancing… whatever it is, do it and do it often.
6. Write it down
Journal. I know you think you have a great memory; so did I, until I left my son at the gas station… just kidding! Write down what you eat and do, and make yourself accountable.
7. Think small and sensible
Eat several small meals a day. Don’t go so long that you feel strong hunger; eat  just before you are. It’s a good idea to time your meals so that you don’t eat all day, though!
8. Moderation … even in moderation
Practice moderation. Don’t over- or under-do anything. Remember: too much gorgeous sunshine is not healthy, but too little and you might be missing out on some vitamin D. Exercise and food are much the same.
9. Get into a routine
Be consistent. Do something often enough and you will make it a habit — a natural part of your routine.
10. Think of the rewards
Just do it! You won’t regret it. When is the last time you worked out, and afterwards, said, “Man, I wish I hadn’t done that?”
